How to get over the fear of being seen online, as a wellness creator.

I know firsthand how tough it can be to show up online. And how difficult it can feel to get over that fear, especially as an anxious girly who cares a bit tooo much about saying “the right thing.”

But, after 5+ years sharing content online, I can confidently say that I rarely care about people seeing my content, or worry about how I’m “being perceived” anymore.

Sure, sometimes I feel “cringe.” But the truth is, cringe is paying my bills, baby. 😏

Remember that no one cares as much about you/what you’re sharing as you do.
This might be a bit blunt or harsh, but people simply don’t care as much as you think. Most people are focused on their own lives, and very rarely analyzing your content. They are scrolling quickly, multitasking, or looking for something that catches their attention. This doesn’t mean that what you’re sharing won’t resonate with them.

It just means that they’re likely not going to dwell on every little word, or dissect everything you’re doing. Focus on the big picture and the value that you’re providing, as that’s what really will make an impact!

Practice makes progress.
I don’t agree with the phrase “practice makes perfect,” but rather “practice makes progress.” This is a phrase that I was taught when I was in yoga teacher training, and it really stuck for me and I notice that it applies to so many areas of life. You will always improve at a skill, the more you do it. But the goal should never be perfection.

Being seen is a muscle, and it only gets stronger through use. The first few times you post or talk on camera might feel uncomfortable or cringe, and that’s normal. The more consistent you get, the more you will get used to it.

Let it be imperfect.
You don’t need to show up perfectly to show up meaningfully. People connect to honesty and relatability, not perfect and polished content. Imperfect action builds trust faster than waiting until everything feels 100% perfect.

Reconnect to your why.
When fear creeps in, bring your attention back to why you started showing up online in the first place. Whether you want to educate and support, guide people to your services and offers, or make money through content creation, there’s a reason why you’re on social media to begin with.

Remember that someone out there needs the information that you’re sharing. And at the end of the day, your voice matters so much more than your discomfort, and staying silent helps no one, including you!

Shift the focus away from yourself.
Fear tends to show up the most when all of your attention is on how you look, sound, or might be perceived by others. Try shifting your focus outward instead.

Think about the person on the other side of the screen who might feel seen, helped, supported, or less alone because of what you’re sharing. Showing up gets easier when you stop worrying about how you’re coming across and start focusing on the message you want to share.

Protect your peace (and boundaries)
It’s 2026. It’s time to officially unfollow, mute, or block anyone who you simply don’t want to have access to you. (Or the other way around). While it does get easier over time to share knowing lots of people can see what you’re doing, you don’t have to force it.

If you feel SUPER uncomfortable about your high school soccer coach’s daughter seeing your posts, consider just blocking her or muting your story. It’s really not that deep. And she probably won’t notice. 🤭 What matters far more is that you’re able to show up honestly and authentically, not whether some random person who makes you feel uncomfortable has access to your content.

*Also, this goes without saying, but if you’re worried about someone judging you, remember that that is a MUCH bigger reflection of who they are as a person, vs you. Hopefully they have a lot better things to do with their time than be judgmental towards your work. And if not, that’s a them problem. 🙂
